Lolita Valentine's Day!

(If I've used your photo in this post and you'd like me to remove it please comment with the photo that belongs to you! Thanks!)

Hello everyone! In many places of the world tomorrow is Valentine's day. I know I'm a little late in making this post but it may be useful for future reference as well. I wanted to share some ideas for celebrating the holiday with your comm. I often see people planning meets around this time and lolitas coming out in their best themed coords and would like to throw my two cents in.

First off, I want to say, I LOVE pink and red coordinates, especially around Valentine's. I know they're a little cliche and many people really don't like them. I, however, think they're great. That being said, they can be VERY difficult to pull off. This color combination requires a delicate eye and just the right balance. Here are some of my favorite examples of this color combination:

If red and pink isn't your thing any print with candy, hearts, or similar imagery will fit the bill! Don't feel pressured to wear a themed coordinate though because many lolitas do not have a holiday appropriate outfit and that is TOTALLY OKAY!

Valentine's meetup possibilities are truly endless. A few options that come to mind are a visit to a candy store, tea with special themed cakes or cookies (rose tea for extra kawaii), a color theme meetup, a card or gift swap, or a crafting meet prior to the holiday to make themed gifts and cards. Any meetup sharing love and joy with your lolita pals is acceptable, it just depends how hard you want to go for the theme.

Don't be afraid to bring a small snack or gift for the lolitas in your comm if you are attending a V-day meet! Make sure to check ahead if anyone has allergies or dietary needs though. There is nothing worse than working hard on something and not being able to give it to everyone.

Have ideas to make Valentine's meets more classic or gothic friendly? Comment them below!

Have a wonderful month everyone and enjoy your holiday!

Week 13 is Punk Lolita week!

I've been looking for some pictures and I think I found some good stuff! I hope you all enjoy it. So a brief overview of Punk Lolita: It is the crossing of Lolita with the Eastern style of Punk (that part is pretty obvious). This style features lots of layering, fishnet, chains, and studs. Some are slightly closer to normal Lolita shapes and cuts but have subtle punk elements to them. Hair is pretty much a free for all in this style so it is great for girls with short hair who don't like wigs. Makeup can be a bit heavier in this style than some of the softer styles (Sweet, Classic, Hime). This style can often be challenging to pull off well.

Here are some examples!

Wa Lolita week!

So today was a presentation at my school about Lolita (done by me for a class) so I'm wearing Lolita around. :) Feel cute. Will post outfit pics later hopefully.

So this week is Wa Lolita week. This is a really hard style to find GOOD content for. T__T So if you guys have done Wa Lolita you should contact me via facebook or comment here with your email so I can get them from you (with a link to your blog).

For those who don't know Wa Lolita is Kimono style Lolita dresses. The makeup for this can be a little more fun and dark hair seems to be pretty common. There are a LOT of things that are done wrong in this style. :/ So a brief list of things that IN MY OPINION shouldn't be done. Cheap satin material is a no in any Lolita, this is not an exception. I saw a full Hello Kitty dress. o_o just no. I appreciate Hello Kitty but a full coordinate? No. Just no. I saw many accessories that were a disconnect from the outfit also. Please plan accordingly.

There is a lot of debate on whether this and Qi should be considered lolita. Personally I'm not fond of these styles and they should not be attempted by beginners.

So here are a few good ones I found. (All sources will be posted at the end of the week again for sake of saving time and ease.)

Just a last minute mention. I think I'm going to, on a weekend some time, make a wish list post and the list of things I plan to buy ASAP and the ones I plan on making ASAP. This will then be an edited universal post that will be updated as things are bought/newly wanted/made. ^_^

Country Lolita week!

Hey everyone! It is country Lolita week. So this week is all about cute country themes and motifs. Lots of strawberries, natural makeup, wicker hats and baskets, and everything is absolutely adorable. ^_^ This particular style is close to my heart since I'm a country girl myself. I really really love this style. Please enjoy! I apologize these photos are all older, this style never caught on in popularity.

This week's theme is HIME LOLITA!

Hime Lolita or Princess Lolita is a style associate with elegance. This style reflects a feel of royalty and can be seen in several different forms depending on what country's royalty you choose to embody. Common colors are pink and blue. Makeup can be slightly over the top, though it is usually natural colors. Makeup is very natural looking (though some liberty can be taken with blush). Here are some examples. :)

Gothic Lolita week!

So this week is Gothic Lolita week. This is one of the most recognized and most executed types of Lolita. Gothic Lolita is often seen using black and white but can actually be black and ANY color. It is sometimes seen as a combination of western goth and sweet Lolita. This is NOT a subsection of goth however. Many Lolitas start with this style because it is easy to buy products locally. The term Gothic Lolita is often mis-used and Gothic Lolita is often labeled incorrectly, so be careful. I'll do my best not to make that mistake. ^_^

So here are the examples! (Source!)

Hello everyone! Some updates and this week's theme.

So went to Youmacon in Detroit this weekend. I will have the updates from that soon and some shop suggestions from people I met in artist alley. Also a Detroit store review that is perfect for Lolita accessories. :) This week's theme is Sweet Lolita! This is a very commonly seen Lolita themed around light colors, cute, cute, cute, and did I mention cute? Pastels, bouncy skirts, crazy prints, and bows and ribbons everywhere. Shoes and bags tend to be pretty simple but still cute, often adorned with bows or in the shapes of hearts or animals. OTT (over the top) sweet is extremely common at the moment though more toned down sweet is still prominent. So here are some examples. (And here are some sources here here and here)

So cute!
